The 2015 Wine Blog Awards process will open on April 1 with submissions by the general public for blogs to be considered for awards in seven categories. To nominate a blog, simply add your email in the Stay Up to Date box to the right (or add your blog to our Complete List of Wine Blogs) and we’ll notify you on April 1.
Judges will review blogs submitted for awards, a public vote will take place in late May or early June, and award winners will be announced on this site on or before
June 15 June 30, 2015. Winners will be invited to receive their physical award at a Wine Blog Awards Ceremony at the 2015 Wine Bloggers Conference on August 15 in the Finger Lakes, New York.
Our last post on this site back in September asked for feedback on the awards process via an online survey. 110 people cared enough about the awards to take the time to send us their opinions and we have made significant changes to the 2015 awards based on this and other feedback.
- We dropped the category of Best Writing on a Wine Blog, which is already an integral part of many of the other award categories. (Note: Due to human error, this category was accidentally included in 2015 and Best Wine Reviews was dropped. This will be corrected in 2016.)
- We combined Best Winery Blog with Best Industry Wine Blog. These categories were different, with the Best Industry Wine Blog designed to highlight a blog that reported on, rather than was part of the wine industry. But the categories were often confused and are now combined into one category that will be awarded to a blog run by a winery or other wine industry business.
- We have clarified that industry blogs are only eligible for the above category. All other award categories are only open to Citizen Wine Bloggers. Citizen Wine Bloggers operate, for the most part, without any budget and in a part time capacity and it is not fair to have them compete against blogs supported by a business.
- Winner of Best Overall Wine Blog will not be eligible to win other award categories in that year.
- We have tightened the nomination process to require people to fill out a form, provide their name (which will be kept confidential by the awards organizers), ensure the blog meets the requirements of the category, and provide links to three posts that exemplify why that blog should win an award.
- As written in the first paragraph above, we have changed the announcement from taking place live at the WBC awards ceremony to instead being via this website two months prior to the conference, which will encourage winners to attend the conference and receive their awards.
Other things have remained the same. Survey respondents liked having industry judges participate in the process and most liked having a public vote as part of the final determination of winners. These will remain the same.
The Wine Blog Awards have been in existence since 2007, the year prior to the Wine Bloggers Conference. The large number of nominations, outstanding participation in the public voting, and support of experienced judges shows the awards have an important place in the world of wine blogging. We hope these changes, based on your suggestions, make the awards even better at highlighting excellence in wine blogging.
